2022 is the year of NAEA’s 75th Anniversary! In honor of this milestone, our Town Hall series this year will continue to tackle fresh content that is relevant to visual arts, design, and media arts educators while looking back at NAEA’s history and ahead to our future. Each conversation will reflect on lessons learned and discoveries made through an honest dialogue acknowledging challenges, accomplishments, and growth.

Our conversation will explore past, present, and future approaches to keeping our visual arts, design, and media arts community vibrant and healthy, including social emotional learning (SEL) and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I).

Kendyl Boyd
FAO Schwarz Fellow for Community Engagement and Family Programs, The Barnes Foundation, Philadelphia, PA

Kendyl Boyd is an emerging art educator, arts administrator, and multifaceted creative who is passionate about equity, access, and cultural exchange in the arts and education. She strives to encourage youth to lift their voices and realize their potential through educational experiences that are culturally inclusive, relevant, and diverse. A May 2021 graduate from the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education program at Moore College of Art & Design, Boyd is also an awardee of the 2021 National Art Education Association Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Scholarship, and the 2021–2023 FAO Schwarz Fellow for Community Engagement and Family Programs at the Barnes Foundation. The New Jersey native is currently based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Candido Crespo
Art Educator, Central Islip Union Free School District, Islip, NY
He/Him/His

Candido Crespo is a husband, father, artist, and art educator. He has taught in the Central Islip Union Free School District in Central Islip, New York, for 14 years. He received his BS in visual arts education from SUNY New Paltz and his MA from Stony Brook University. He also recently earned his school building and school district administrative certifications from St. Rose. His educational philosophy is truly rooted in relationships and community. He is a firm believer that art teachers are at their best when they not only teach others but create for themselves. He is currently exploring printmaking and NFTs.

Jonathan Juravich
Elementary Art Educator, 2018 Ohio Teacher of the Year, Liberty Tree Elementary School, Columbus, OH
He/Him/His

Jonathan Juravich is an elementary art educator in his 17th year of teaching in Columbus, Ohio, and the 2018 Ohio Teacher of the Year. His personal and professional focus is on the importance of social–emotional learning in our daily lives. This is his favorite topic for research and discussion, including his TED Talk, “How Do You Teach Empathy?”; his limited-series podcast, “The Art of SEL”; and his Emmy award–winning digital drawing program, “Drawing With Mr. J.”

Sarah Tambucci, Ph.D. Art Educator, Administrator, and Former Executive Director of the Arts Education Collaborative, Pittsburgh, PA

As a teacher, administrator, and executive director of a nonprofit organization, and currently an education consultant, Sarah Tambucci’s career has spanned over 55 years. During that time, Tambucci has functioned in leadership positions at the local, state, and national levels. As a fellow of both the Pennsylvania Art Education Association and the National Art Education Association and President of both, Tambucci has been afforded the opportunity to speak and write broadly regarding topics related to curriculum, leadership, and art management. A strong advocate for children and youth, Tambucci’s professional pursuits include providing testimony for an education the the arts as crucial for an informed, discerning citizenry.
