external resource from Fresh Films, Fresh Films Video ChallengesSubmissions are open for the Fresh Films Video Challenges, created to allow educators to meet students where they want to be: on the screen. Every 2 weeks, middle and high school students respond to a challenge topic with a 2-minute video. With step-by-step project guides and video lessons as well as self-reflective and social justice themes, teachers can use challenges as assignments in their digital classrooms, or students can complete for fun. Winning projects receive $100 and can nominate a teacher to win $100 as well! No previous filmmaking experience or fancy equipment required—just a willingness to get creative!

external resource from Americans for the Arts, Calling All Students & Teachers: Vans Custom Culture ContestVANS Custom Culture Grants are available to public high schools (including charter schools) serving students in grades 9-12 or community based nonprofit organizations/governmental agencies serving as a fiscal agent for arts programming at a qualifying school. The grants are intended to encourage the inclusion of the arts as an integral component of an excellent education, and to support activities that are consistent with local and national learning standards for arts education. Ten schools across the country will each receive a $2,000 grant to support their work in providing high-quality dance, media arts, music, theatre and/or visual arts instruction for students.

Vans and its program partners, including Journeys, Yoobi, Laguna College of Art + Design (LCAD) and Americans for the Arts, awarded $75,000 towards the school’s arts education program. The remaining finalists – Fontainebleau High School, Larned High School, Middle Township High School, and Moanalua High School – will each receive $10,000 toward their arts program and a limited-edition Vans gift.
